Statewide Veterans Advisory Committee to Hold First Meeting
Newly reformed group helps plan, coordinate services for Florida's veterans

  • WHO: New Statewide Veterans Advisory Committee – interagency team including the Department of Children and Families Substance Abuse and Mental Health Office, Agency for Health Care Administration, Department of Corrections, Florida National Guard, Florida Peer Network, NAMI Florida, Department of Economic Opportunity, Florida Council for Community Mental Health, Department of Education, Veterans, Other Community Organizations.

  • WHAT: Objectives for the committee include:
    · Coordinating substance abuse and mental health services for veterans and their families
    · Strengthening jail diversion services for veterans, particularly with trauma-related disorders
    · Developing a statewide sustainability plan to include trauma training, screening, assessment, treatment and recovery support
    · Providing clinical treatment and recovery support for veterans with substance abuse disorders and their families
