Over 20 Foster Children Will Be Adopted During Hillsborough National Adoption Day

TAMPA, FL – On Friday morning, November 16th, over 20 foster children from Hillsborough County will leave with new forever families during the Hillsborough National Adoption Day celebration at the George E. Edgecomb Courthouse/ 6th Floor, 800 East Twiggs Street, Tampa, FL. Adoption finalization hearings, normally closed to the public, will be open to guests and members of the media, making it an emotional and memorable day for all who attend.

A host of community partners have joined together to plan this year’s event, titled “The Ties That Bind”, to include Eckerd Community Alternatives | Hillsborough; Thirteenth Judicial Courts; Guardian ad Litem Program; Camelot Community Care; Children’s Home Society; Devereux; Gulf Coast Jewish Family and Community Services; One Hope United; Youth and Family Alternatives; Children’s Board Heart Gallery of Tampa Bay; and other generous sponsors.

The opening ceremony (9:00 am – 9:30 am) will feature moving stories of adoption and the beautiful voice of Eva Kroon Pike, an adoptee who uses her musical gifts to share her story and raise awareness about adoption. Immediately following the opening ceremony will be the adoption finalizations of Eckerd foster children – many whom have waited years to be adopted – and a special reception featuring children’s activities, refreshments, family portraits and more.

The celebration is held each November in conjunction with National Adoption Month, a month set aside each year to raise awareness about the adoption of children and teens from foster care. Currently, there are over 100,000 foster children in the United States available for adoption without an identified family to adopt them – about 750 in Florida and 160 in Hillsborough County. Eckerd Community Alternatives and its partners believe there are no unwanted children – just unfound families – and we’re asking for the community’s continued support to help find homes for these deserved children.

Families will be on hand to share their special stories, as the community comes together to celebrate the many new forever families that will be created during Hillsborough National Adoption Day!
