For Immediate Release: October 6, 2016

“Our Children, Our Future: Strengthening Families and Communities through Faith”

ORLANDO— The Florida Department of Children and Families (DCF) and the Florida Department of Juvenile Justice (DJJ), in partnership with the Florida Faith-Based and Community-Based Advisory Council, will host the seventh annual Florida Faith Symposium in Orlando on November 2 and 3, 2016. The symposium is one of the largest gatherings of faith leaders in the state to discuss and identify ways to strengthen programs for vulnerable children and families.

The symposium will offer four general sessions, more than 30 workshops, and a plethora of networking opportunities focused on enhancing faith and community-based collaboration and coordination to build stronger communities and families. The general sessions will feature:

  • Remarks from DCF Secretary Mike Carroll and DJJ Secretary Christina K. Daly.
  • Pastor Paula White, teacher, author, international evangelist and popular TV personality, known for her profound and dynamic Bible teachings.
  • Jonathan Evans, mentor, author, and former NFL fullback who seeks to impact today’s athletes, men, and young adults by equipping and encouraging them in their faith.
  • Reverend Dr. R.B. Holmes, a gifted preacher, visionary, and community leader in ministry for more than 30 years who has committed his life to investing and rebuilding communities.
  • Youth empowerment panel facilitated by child advocate Tanya Wilkins, co-founder of Fostering Connections, featuring young adults discussing real-life experiences in the DCF and DJJ system.

The event will also feature special musical performances by Christian artist Christopher Duffley and gospel recording artist Omega Forbes. Duffley inspires others through his singing, presentations, and podcasts and shares the message that despite physical challenges, God has great plans for our lives. Forbes, a minister and director of Forbes Ministries International, has shared the stage with well-known recording artists including Vicki Winans, Ty Tribbett, and Hezekiah Walker.
